Message from the President
Welcome to Virginia State University! It is truly an honor to serve as VSU’s 13th President. For nearly 130 years, young men and women have matriculated to this haven “high above the Appomattox” in search of a quality education. For today’s students, the words Dream, Explore, Succeed represent more than a slogan. They embody the spirit and culture of Virginia State. To many of our students, attending college is a dream come true, not only for them, but for their families. Once on campus, we encourage students to explore not only the myriad academic offerings in our classrooms and laboratories, but the many opportunities to receive a holistic education. By nurturing not only the mind, but imparting a true sense of Trojan spirit and pride, we afford our students the tools to succeed as professionals or in the pursuit of advanced academic credentials. As President, I hope to enhance the true student-centered culture throughout campus. By this, I mean that, whatever your job: President, faculty member or police officer everything we do relates to quality higher education for students. To achieve this goal, we must have buy-in and support from a broad range of constituencies. This includes those on campus in Ettrick, our policymakers in Richmond and our thousands of alumni and friends scattered throughout the world. Over the next months, I look forward to meeting with many of you to get a sense of how Virginia State can better deliver to our students a high quality education and impact the larger community. I truly believe the more helpful we can be to our community – to our region – the better Virginia State will be as well. Working together toward a common goal, we can propel Virginia State University to even greater heights!
