6-Step Housing Process

Virginia State University
Fall 2009 Housing Process

Communities all over the United States are anticipating the effects of innovation and change and the Virginia State University (VSU) Department of Residence Life is doing the same. We are rolling up our sleeves, examining former processes and studying ideas, suggestions and possible outcomes so that we can develop new, more effective ways to serve students who will become a part of the VSU community. The initial evidence of our motivation to administer effective changes will be demonstrated as we implement the Housing Process for the 2009-2010 school year.

We have worked hard to make the transition into the VSU community as smooth as possible for all of our students who want to enjoy the amenities associated with living in the VSU Residence Halls. We didn’t just decide to change the way we do things, we asked you as students to give us your input and then we reviewed your responses.   A greater number of students indicated that the Housing Lottery process was not to their liking. While some preferred housing according to GPA, and others indicated that we should house according to classification, the majority of students indicated that they wanted a housing process that provides students access to housing on a First Come, First Serve basis.

In our endeavor to improve the process and better serve the VSU community, students participating in the Housing Process for the 2009-2010 school year will have access to an increased number of Housing staff persons, ten full days and one hundred hours of direct customer service provided by VSU Residence Life staff in cooperation with the staff of the University Apartments at Ettrick.   In addition, we have asked staff members of the Office of Financial Aid to be available to answer questions and provide assistance in completing the FASFA form.

We listened to your input and we’re ready to begin the process that will bring about those changes necessary to make the VSU community one of the finest for students who have made the choice to live, study and/or work on campus.   As with any new process, there will be additions, deletions, upgrades etc. until the best version of the process is completed. Can the VSU community work together to make the changes needed to create a better VSU for all students? YES WE CAN!
