Student-Athlete Profile: Danielle Gammon

Danielle Gammon likes to keep busy.

This winter, the 5-foot tall senior is leading the Virginia State University bowling team.  She anchored the bowling team's third-place finish in the season-opening Elizabeth City State University Invitational, held November 7-9 in Elizabeth City, N.C.

Gammon's pin average over the three-day event was 177.4, making the senior from Petersburg, Va., the sixth place finisher overall.

When the winter's over, Gammon will trade her bowling shoes for softball spikes.  During her junior year, Gammon played in 17 games, including four starts.  Her presence was instrumental in the Lady Trojans reaching the championship game of the CIAA Softball Tournament for the second straight year.

"I want to be known as hard-working, energetic, out-going and assertive," she said recently.

The Montclair High School product has most certainly proven that about herself.  Her goal is to graduate from VSU with a degree in Physical Education and a 3.0 grade point average.

She also has other lofty goals.

"I want to make All-CIAA in bowling, be named MVP of my team, be named CIAA Player f the Year and bowl a 300 game," she wrote.

She's come close already.  Gammon has already bowled a 298, two pins away from perfection.

"My best skill is rising to the pressure," she said.
