Virginia State University is seeking a well-organized, experienced Prospect Researcher to support and enhance fundraising programs within the Office of Development. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Development, the Prospect Research Associate will become part of an expanding and ambitious development team. The Prospect Research Associate is responsible for identification of prospects, in-depth and proactive research, prospect ratings and prospect management. The successful candidate will develop and implement a prospect research program grounded in best practices and driven by creativity and curiosity. The Prospect Research Associate will accurately analyze, interpret, and evaluate information collected about donor prospects and effectively communicate essential data and interpretations to appropriate departmental staff through confidential prospect profiles and financial reports. Working closely with the Database Manager and Development Officers to identify and qualify prospects for initiatives across the University. The Prospect Research Associate organizes and prioritizes the prospect pool, and runs monthly prospect review meetings. The Prospects Research Associate ensures that the development research program continuously evolves to meet the University’s development plans and to make certain that prospect research efforts at Virginia State University Keep up with the constantly changing field, and establishes guidelines for quality-control of research product. This position has accepts to sensitive materials and requires a high degree of professional judgment and discretion. Occasional evening or weekend assignments. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s degree preferred.
- At least 5 years professional prospect research experience or equivalent quantitative and qualitative research/analysis experience, in a higher education environment required.
- Advanced PC abilities required, including in-depth knowledge of World Wide Web searching tools, and high proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and with prospect research tools such as WealthPoint, LexisNexis, Hoovers, and other electronic screenings.
- Must demonstrate exceptional analytical skills; including the ability to analyze and synthesize information and to determine the quality, reliability, and accuracy of sources.
- Strong writing skills with ability to prepare clear, concise, detailed and accurate research documents.
- Attention to detail and strong communication and organizational development skills required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with databases required; Raiser’s Edge donor management software highly preferred.
- Knowledge of the University’s mission, history, programs, goals and philosophy, and funding needs, highly preferred.
- Direct experience working within a comprehensive campaign, preferred.
- Member – Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA), preferred.
