Anthony Collins
head men's basketball coach

Anthony Collins is entering his third season as the head coach of Virginia State University, and during his tenure VSU has seen a resurgence in the Trojan program.

The Trojans have become one of the biggest draws in the NCAA, finishing as the nation’s leader in attendance two years ago and third in the nation last season.

Collins has also turned VSU into a contender for the CIAA crown. Last season the Trojans finished at 20-8, the most wins for a VSU men’s basketball team since the 1991 team won 21 games.

Collins played his college ball here at VSU under the legendary tutelage of Harold Deane.

Collins returned to his alma mater in 2005 after serving as the assistant coach for the men’s program at Austin Peay State University for sixteen seasons.

Before his stint at FSU, Collins was an assistant women’s basketball coach at LaPlata High School in Maryland, where he helped guide the Warriors to the 1987 Maryland State Championship.

Before joining LaPlata, Collins spent two seasons as the assistant women’s coach at Miami University in Oxford, OH.

Collins began his coaching career as an assistant men’s coach at Friends University in Wichita, Kan., from 1980-83.

As a player, Collins led Mercer County Community College to runner-up in the National Junior College Tournament in 1976. He has also appeared in the National Invitational Tournament, twice in the NCAA Tournament and is a three-time Ohio Valley Conference Champion.
