Hiring Salary Range:            $42,500 - $52,500 (Commensurate with experience)       
Virginia State University is seeking a well-organized, experienced grant writer with a proven track record of securing 6-figure grants from private funding sources. The Development Grant Writer will support new and existing VSU scholarships, endowments and programs by identifying, researching, cultivating and soliciting diverse funding prospects from among private and corporate foundations and major corporations. Excellent persuasive writing skills, analytical ability and an in-depth knowledge of research techniques are key components to the success of this position. Seeking an effective time manager with the ability to handle several tasks simultaneously, and to meet multiple deadlines. Grant Writer interviews internal subject matter experts, translates identified research/programmatic capabilities into persuasive writing pieces, and maintains master file of current information. Ensures fundraising compliance by conferring with academic units to explain/enforce University policy and procedures related to private funding. Collaborates across administrative and academic units to ensure submission of periodic reports to comply with grant requirements. Occasional evening or weekend work arises with critical time-sensitive reports. Other duties as assigned. Reports to Assistant Vice President for Development.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required (Master's desired), preferably in Library Sciences, English, Journalism, or Communications; minimum of three years nonprofit grant writing experience, preferably in higher education setting; demonstrated excellent persuasive writing and editing skills (must provide > 2 writing samples); demonstrated excellent organizational and relationship-building skills, and problem solving abilities; demonstrated ability to manage competing demands and multiple projects, subjected to deadlines; proven ability to work successfully both independently and as part of a team; proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Internet-based research.
 
Compensation, inclusive of fringe benefits, will be commensurate with qualifications.
