One can use many words to describe this 6-1 senior guard.

Humble.

Hungry.

But according to assistant coach Corey Gipson, another word fits Jamar Fleming better.

“Jamar Fleming is fearless. He has a true passion for the game," Gipson said.

Fleming out of Richmond, Va, and is a health/physical education major.

“I always wanted to be a coach, I chose this major because I wanted to go into a field I can most relate to and to also give back to the youth,” said Fleming.

Fleming knew that his humbleness and hunger for the game of basketball would give him the opportunity to show that he is worthy to be on the court.

As a freshman he was named Virginia State University men's basketball Rookie of the Year, and as a senior now, he has been named to the CIAA pre-season team.

His 33 points against Holy Family University earlier this year were the most by a VSU player since Darrell Stith scored 45 points against Bowie State 24 years ago.

“I am not letting me being named to the pre-season team get to my head. I am very team-oriented and willing to work hard for my team. I wouldn’t have received the accolades that I have now without the help of my team or my coaches,” said Fleming.

This season Fleming is more focused than ever. He pointed out that this year’s team is more guard oriented and that there comes a complete different focus, in which he is ready for. He states that this year they have a younger team and that they are also in a rebuilding phase, “What I like about this year’s team is that they are hungry and ready to play as a team,” said Fleming.

Some of Fleming’s goals this season: to win more than twenty games, proving people wrong after being picked fifth at pre-season CIAA Tip-Off Luncheon by coming in first in the CIAA Eastern Division, and most importantly, becoming the 2007-2008 CIAA Champions.

“Go hard or go home,” said Fleming, “If you’re not going to come and give your maximum effort, then there is no point in showing up!”
