Applications are invited for the position of Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Physics at Virginia State University. The successful candidate will have administrative experience and desire to lead the continued growth of the department consistent with the University’s revised 20/20 plan. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential. The Chair oversees the departmental operations including curriculum, planning, personnel, and budgetary matters. The Chair also has teaching responsibilities in the organic sequence, physical chemistry, and advanced chemistry courses, and is expected to engage in scholarly activities and service. The department is committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching and research, and in obtaining ACS certification. A Ph.D. in Physical Organic Chemistry; 5+ years of full time teaching experience; a strong record of research and teaching accomplishments; and demonstration of an ability to work with persons with culturally diverse backgrounds are required.
