Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) for Students

 Q

What is Banner?  How is Banner going to effect me?

 A

Banner is the new university computer system that will replace SIS Plus.  With SIS Plus, students check grades, holds, their class schedule, and their transcript.  Many students register for classes using SIS Plus too.

Everything a student might do in SIS Plus can be done in Banner.  The difference is that Banner is easier to learn and the technology behind Banner is current; SIS Plus is based on older technology is becoming too difficult for the university to maintain.

 Q

When is Pre-Registration for Fall '07, and how do I pre-register?

A

Pre-Registration begins April 16.

The first thing you need to do is get your Banner ID and PIN.  These were emailed to your VSU email addresses.  Make sure you check your email to get your ID and PIN.

The next thing to do is meet with your faculty advisor to get your advisor-recommended class list and your Registration PIN.  You need the Registration PIN (this is also called an Alternate PIN) to enter into Banner when you are ready to sign-up for your Fall '07 classes.

Q

I don't know who my advisor is.  What do I do?

A

Ask in your major's department.  If you don't have a major yet, contact the Academic Support Center.

Q

I tried to register for a class, but it's full.  Can I still get in?

A

Maybe.  You need to talk to your faculty advisor - he or she will work with the Registrar's office and the class instructor to see if there's room for one more person.

Q

Who do I call for Help!?

A

Call the Student Help Desk at 524-5144.

Q

Isn't there a guide or manual on how to use Banner?

A

Yes.  Just download the Quick Reference Guide on how to register.
