Department of Student Activities

Menjiwe Martin is a graduate of Virginia State University.  She received her bachelor’s degree in Social Work prior to attaining a Masters Degree at the University of Illinois Champaign Urbana.  She served as the first African American Female Program Director at the University of Illinois's Y, founding entity for the Office of International Student Affairs.  She provided guidance to student organizations, developed innovative co-curricular programming with national and international students, and served to create an environment that demonstrated inclusion, cultural awareness, social awareness and growth.  Menjiwe is married to Dr. Oscar Lee Martin II and they have two children Malia and Oscar III "Ozzie" Martin.

VSU's Department of Student Activities provides a comprehensive co-curricular environment for the university community.  Through its Student Union, educational, cultural, social and recreational programs are developed and implemented to enrich students' academic experiences, individual social competencies, leadership skills, and group effectiveness.

The quality of student life on campus is our primary concern.
