Support Laboratories

Analytical and electron microscopy common laboratories, located in the M.T. Carter Agricultural Research Building, were established to support research, outreach and student projects in the School of Agriculture and other life science units at the University.  The Analytical Laboratory occupies approximately 1300 square feet and supports both plant and animal science projects.  Services include extraction, identification and quantification of chemicals from plant and animal samples using appropriate techniques. Faculty and students use the lab facilities to carry out various analytical procedures. The Laboratory is equipped with fully automated analytical systems such as HPLC with DR/PDA/ELS/MS detectors, GC with FID/NPD/MS detectors and Protein Analyzer.

The Electron Microscopy Laboratory (EML) was established as an institutional resource center to meet the electron microscopy needs of faculty, staff and students in the School of Agriculture and the University at-large. The laboratory provides support services in the preparation and examination of biological samples for scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray microanalysis and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Instrumentation in both light and electron microscopes are available. Critical point drier, sputter coaters, and ultramicrotome are provided for preparation of specimens for EM and light microscopy that includes optics for bright-field, phase-contrast, differential-interference, and fluorescence imaging. All microscopes are configured for digital imaging and internet output.
