POSITION NUMBER: FO373 (Twelve Month Appointment)
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with Education and Experience
APPOINTMENT DATE: Summer 2006
Duties and Responsibilities: The 4-H Youth Specialist provides leadership in research, program development, and instruction in the areas of 4-H Delivery Modes for paid and volunteer staff; Outreach to underserved audiences, in particular, diverse racial and ethnic populations; and, Youth Leadership and Personal Development. The incumbent of the position serves as the advisor (co-advisor with Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University) for the Virginia Association of Adult 4-H Volunteers; Northeast District 4-H Agents; and the chair of the Educational Design Team Subcommittee - Programming and Evaluation. Other responsibilities include providing leadership for State 4-H Intermediate Congress annually; participating in State 4-H Staff Meetings; serving in a support role for State 4-H Congress; promoting a positive image of the 4-H Program; emphasizing its contributions in both rural and urban areas; demonstrating a commitment to diversity in programming; and, other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Ph.D in education, youth/child development, program management or related field. Knowledge and demonstrated experience in planning, conducting and evaluating participatory Extension or non-formal education programs in leadership, citizenship and volunteer development with special emphasis in at-risk programming. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of child and human development; basic knowledge in educational technologies and their appropriate use in the development and delivery of educational programs. Knowledge and willingness to involve and manage volunteers in the program development process. A personal commitment to working with diverse clientele and experience in working with such audiences.
