Standard 1. Element Five: Professional Knowledge and Skills for Other School Personnel

Advanced programs for other school personnel have been aligned with the professional standards of Specialized Professional Associations and state program standards. The professional knowledge and skills are evaluated in course embedded assignments and demonstrated in internal and external evaluations and observations. Candidates use their knowledge of schools, communities and families, using current research to mold their practice in support of student learning. Data collected by the unit reflect the professional knowledge and skills to improve the learning environment for students.

Educational Administration and Supervision
 
Professional knowledge and skills for candidates in Administration and Supervision are measured at multiple phases of the program. Candidates take a variety of assessments to ensure an in depth understanding of the expectations and standards required in the field. Tables 20-22 provide performance data on how candidates in the Educational Administration and Supervision program have performed on comprehensive examinations and candidate exit surveys.
 
Results from the assessments indicate that candidates in the program have a comprehensive knowledge of the standards and tools of inquiry required by the Specialized Professional Associations and state program outcomes.
 
School Counseling
 
Professional knowledge and skills for candidates in the School Counseling program performance assessment are reflected in Table 24. The selected items measure the candidates’ ability to articulate the standards required of a school counselor. The majority of the candidates evaluated scored at the excellent level.
