Pinworms (Keiferia lycopersicella)

Leaf miner stage of tomato pinworm. Larvae are hidden and damage is sometimes mistaken for a disease.
Leaf miner stage on nightshade weed. Solanaceous weeds or crops can provide alternate hosts for this tropical pest.

Adults are a small grey moth. Larvae start out as leaf miners and later invade stems and fruit. Larvae grow to about 1/4 inch long and pupate in the soil. Larvae may follow the stem to reach the potting media (bag) or just drop off. This is not a common pest but once established it may re-occur. Moths are caught on yellow sticky traps, especially placed at soil level.
