Corporate & Government Relations Corporate and Government Relations
The primary responsibilities of the office of Corporate and Government Relations are to coordinate and strengthen the relationships between Virginia State University and the public and private business sector as well as local governments, the Virginia General Assembly and the Federal government. The office is a principal liaison to key internal and external constituencies as it relates to businesses, governmental agencies and policy makers, and various community organizations. The components of the office are identified below. Corporate Relations
This function plays a pivotal role in encouraging external funding, scholarships and other support initiatives through the Virginia State Business and Industry Cluster (Partnership) Program. The purpose of the Cluster is to forge a strong relationship between its members and the University. This special partnership is committed to establishing and maintaining a strong alliance focusing on the development and advancement of the Virginia State student body. Government Relations
The mission of the Government Relations Office responsibility is to closely interface with each level of government and nurture the partnerships to the benefit of the University. Serving as Virginia State’s dedicated interface, the office represents the University’s positions on legislation, budgetary concerns, agency funding and other relevant issues. A critical element of the function is to (1) provide information to the office of the President and the entire University regarding legislative matters and (2) assist with the development of state, local and Federal legislative and budget priorities for the relevant legislative year. Economic Development This area is charged with sourcing, recommending and pursuing mutually advantageous partnerships with local governments, businesses, entrepreneurs and community based organizations.
