Tough Loss In The Mountains Of West Virginia

 

In the first game of the New Year the Lady Trojans of Virginia State University fall to 0-10 on the road at the horns of the Lady Rams of Shepherd University, 87-68. 

 

In the first half of competition the Lady Trojans were 14 of 30 from the field for a very warm 46%.   The 3-point line was not an issue in the first 20 minutes as VSU connected on 5 of 9 and they were perfect from the free-throw line, 4 of 4.   Shepherd University was 13 of 38 from the field, 1 of 6 from the 3-point arc, and 12 of 14 from the charity stripe.  The free-throw line was the difference in the first half as the Lady Rams had 10 more attempts than VSU.  Despite a major difference in free-throw opportunities the Lady Trojans were only down, 39-37.

 

During the second 20-minute period the Lady Trojans cooled off by 13% from the field and dropped 16% from behind the 3-point arc.  As the Lady Trojans cooled off the Lady Rams began to heat things up by connecting on 16 of 31 from the field and 15 of 17 from the free-throw line.  For the game the Lady Rams had 23 more attempts at the free-throw line than the Lady Trojans. 

 

Leading the way for VSU was Janae Johnson with 15 points and 9 rebounds in 36 minutes of playing time.   Erica Glasper contributed 10 points and 2 assists in 24 minutes.   Asheley Alexander, Katania Walker and Alexandra Street combined for 25 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assists.   The Lady Trojans will face Cheyney University on January 4, 2006 at 6:00 PM in Philadelphia, PA.
