International Forum

Virginia State University (VSU) will hold its 12th International Forum on Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at 9:45 a.m. in Colson Auditorium, Harris Hall. The Forum topic, International Peace, Security and Development: 20 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War is one of the most important subjects for the United States and the international community. The forum is free and open to the public.

 

The keynote speaker will be LTC (Ret.) Dr. Stephen Bowers, Director of the Center for Security and Science. Other speakers will be Ms. Maia Mushcudiani, Director in the Ministry of Defense, Republic of Georgia, and IREX visiting Scholar at Liberty University; and Mikhailo Krivoruchko, Ukraine, U.S. Department of State Muskie Fellow at VSU. They will address these topics:

 

§         The Fall of the Berlin Wall – The End of the Cold War and Beginning of a New Era in International Relations;

§         Lessons of the German Democratic Republic: What Worked and What Did not Work;

§         Caucasus Security’s Priorities in the U.S. – Republic of Georgia  Strategic Partnerships and the future of Georgia’s “Rose Revolution”;

§         Ukraine’s “Orange Revolution”: Realities and Perspectives.

 

VSU’s International Forums are organized under the leadership of Dr. Ceslav Ciobanu, Eminent Scholar, Professor of Economics and former Ambassador of Moldova to the USA; and VSU’s Dr. George Bennett Office of International Education. The event is hosted by the Schools of Business and Liberal Arts and Education.
