Former president and general manager of the Richmond Renegades Ice Hockey Team, Allan B. Harvie Jr., has donated $17,000 worth of exercise equipment to Virginia State University’s department of health, physical education, recreation and dance (HPERD), within the School of Liberal Arts and Education.

The donated exercise equipment includes a three-tiered weight rack fully equipped with free weights, four barbells, a resistance machine and two weight benches. Individual weights that were donated will also be used with barbells and weight machines in the University’s Wellness Center.

Dr. Robert L. Turner Jr., Vice President for Development at Virginia State University, said with Harvie’s partnership, vision, and friendship, the HPERD department at VSU can continue to thrive. He added that Harvie’s “willingness to donate these items is a true reflection” of Harvie’s dedication to Virginia State University.
