Lady Trojans Seize Second as Trojans Take Third The Virginia State University Men & Women Cross Country Team tightened their tennis laces as they competed in the VSU Classic on September 13, 2005 at Pocahontas State Park. The Lady Trojans’ and Trojans’ competitors consisted of Bowie State University, Columbia Union College, Saint Paul’s College, and Virginia Union University. VSU’s best-finished female performer was Criminal Justice major Candice Brown. Brown broke across the finish line barrier in an overall place of 5th with a time of 23:03:00 (averaging 7:41 per mile). Lady Trojans Altanese Thomas and Lakiesha Banks grabbed two more spots in the meet’s Top 15. Thomas’s time of 25:48:00 (averaging 8:36 per mile) credited her with the 11th place spot while 13th place Banks completed the course with a time of 26:31:00 (averaging 8:50 per mile). The Lady Trojans took the 2nd place spot in the meet with six finishers for a total of 65 points. As for the Trojans, it was none other than Sports Management major Sederick Green that led the way for all participating athletes. The freshman secured his 3rd 1st place finish of the season with a time of 32:07:00 (averaging 6:41 per mile). Marquise Morrant was the next VSU member to finish. Morrant came in 9th place with a time of 36:06:00 (averaging 7:21 per mile). The Trojans had an overall finish of 3rd place with seven finishers for a total of 50 points.
