Trojan WiFi

Terms and Conditions

VSU's faculty, staff, and current students are welcome to use the campus WiFi network unless they have been denied that privilege, which is among the punishments meted out for violations of this policy. Currently, there is no provision for campus guests to use this service, though that is under consideration.

The following basic guidelines are meant to demonstrate the flavor of the full policy that will exist here in the near term (summer 2005). Decisions made by OIT about the use of the WiFi service are binding.

  • Definition

The Trojan WiFi Service is the 802.11 network (currently "b" and "g") provided by the College under various WiFi SSID containing "VSU".
  • No Abuse

The primary rule is that no user may interact with the WiFi system in such a way as to deny access to or use of the system by others. Play nice.
  • No Bridging

Under no circumstances may anyone connect to the WiFi network a device that is configured to bridge network traffic. Similarly, users are forbidden from using the WiFi network while attached to any other network (wired or otherwise).
  • Just Computers

The only devices permitted on the WiFi network without prior express written permission are computers (laptops) and hand-held devices like Palm Pilots and PocketPCs. Video game units, wireless routers and access points, and all other devices are strictly prohibited.
  • No Fixed-Position Stations

The campus WiFi network may not be used by fixed-position computers; it is not a primary network access method (that's the wired network).
  • No Password Sharing

Users must not reveal their login information (name and password) to anyone for any reason. If you need your own login (and you will), contact the Help Desk.
  • Applicability of Other Rules

The rules that apply to other VSU computing structures (networks, computers) apply to the WiFi network.
  • Violations

OIT may take action against violators through such things as revocation of network access and may refer them to the disciplinary body appropriate for the user in question (faculty, staff, and student disciplinary committees, Human Resources, Student Affairs, etc.).

That said, we do hope you enjoy using this system for legitimate purposes.

All questions or comments should be directed to the OIT HelpDesk at 524-5210 or Student Help Desk at 524-5144.
