Welcome to the Department of Nursing! The Department of Nursing offers the associate of science degree in nursing. This is a pre-licensure two year (5 semesters) program which prepares graduates for the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX - RN). Nursing is a department within the School of Engineering, Science and Technology. As a nursing student at Virginia State University, you will be an integral part of the university community, sharing classes with students pursuing majors in other disciplines.
The Department of Nursing is dedicated to the promotion of knowledgeable, perceptive, and humane citizens secure in their self-awareness, equipped for personal fulfillment, sensitive to the needs and aspirations of others, and committed to assuming productive roles in a challenging and ever-changing global society. The VSU nursing program provides a body of knowledge derived from liberal arts, biological, humanities, behavioral science and the nursing sequence.
The faculty is pleased you are considering a career in nursing. As a professional nurse you will provide nursing care to individuals and their significant others across the life span. The curriculum provides an opportunity for you to experience nursing in a variety of settings to include hospitals, health clinics, schools and other outpatient settings.
The program has received permission to enroll students from the Virginia State Board of Nursing. The nursing program is a Candidate for accreditation by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc.
