Taylor advanced to the finals and won the competition in a jump off with St. Augustine's Chris Copeland Saturday afternoon at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC. Taylor's jump of 7-02.25 is an all time best at Virginia State University and a personal best record for Taylor.

Virginia State University seniors, Shanise Lewis (Yorktown, VA) and Hoova Taylor (Tappahannock, VA) will compete in this year’s NCAA Outdoor Championships on May 27-29 on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University. Shanise Lewis will represent Virginia State University in the women’s 100 meter dash and Hoova Taylor will participate in the men’s high jump event.

Virginia State University's outdoor track team competed in the Tony Waldrop Tar Heel Invitational this past weekend in Chapel Hill, NC. VSU's female athlete of the year award winner, senior Shanise Lewis set a personal best record in the women's 100 meter dash with a breaking time of 11.94 provisionally qualifying her for the NCAA Championships in Charlotte, NC.

Hoova Taylor (Tappahannock, VA), continues his success from the 2010 CIAA Championships by winning the high jump competition at the 116th Annual Penn Relays. Hoova Taylor, a senior on the men's outdoor track team at VSU was awarded first place competing against all high jump athletes in NCAA Division I, II, and III.

Dominique King and Hoova Taylor (above) won first place in both the men's high jump and women's long jump events held at the 2010 CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Rogers Stadium. Virginia State University finished in 4th place in both the men and the women overall rankings with a score of 63 in the women's and 77.5 for the men's.
