Welcome to the Virginia State University (VSU) Department of Police and Public Safety website.  Through this message, I hope you will share the campus experience at VSU and appreciate our commitment to providing a safe environment for those who study, work and visit our beautiful campus.  The VSU campus is situated in the southeast corner of Chesterfield County while overlooking the Appomattox River and the historic City of Petersburg, Virginia.

Our goal is to support educational opportunities for our students by emphasizing service as a priority, conducting crime prevention as a specialty and performing law enforcement activities as a reality.  The VSU Police Department espouses a community-oriented policing philosophy and contributes to the quality of life for surrounding neighborhoods. 

We provide a full range of law enforcement services and endeavor to maintain the highest standards of our profession.  Our officers are proficient in state-of-the-art patrol techniques and efficient in crime prevention strategies.  We offer an escort service that is available to assist students, faculty, staff and visitors at all times.  At VSU, we place the University community first.
