Columbia Union fought long and hard but it was VSU that prevailed with an 81 - 46 win. In the first half, VSU showed the Lady Pioneers continuously that they held a concrete concept of dedication, determination, and motivation. The Lady Trojans attacked with the first basket of the game and immediately applied suffocating defensive pressure. VSU forced CUC to commit a number of consecutive turnovers and saw their mistakes as perfect opportunity for offensive production. As soon as a dribble was snatched or a rebound retrieved, guards sped off like wide receivers from the line of scrimmage. #53 Areyal Hall and #43 Felicia Gibbs shared minutes at the quarterback position. Time and time again, they launched successful passes to #21 Erica Glasper or #32 Tope' Ogunniyi as they lavishly lunged to the lane for the layup. The Lady Trojans housed high spirits as they hustled into halftime with a 34 - 22 lead. The Lady Trojans trotted out of the lockerroom to start the second half. VSU continued to contribute collaboratively and used each possession to drive the nail in the coffin. Lady Pioneer #3 Jada Richardson attempted to hoist her teammates on her shoulders and lead a comeback, but even her 22 points were insufficient of stopping the Lady Trojans. Leading scorers for VSU were #21 Erica Glasper with 16 points and #52 Areyal Hall with 15 points. Newcomers to Coach Evan's program #32 Tope' Ogunniyi and #10 Asheley Alexander aided adequately in VSU's offensive scoring. Ogunniyi operated from just about everywhere on the court to drop 13 points as Asheley "woman-handled" her way to the basket and knocked down jumpers for 15 points. #43 Felicia "Stretch" Gibbs brought her "D-Game" as she rejected 3 shots. The Lady Trojans will try to maintain their momentum as they travel to North Carolina on Thursday, December 2, 2004 for competition against St. Andrew's Presbyterian.
