Lady Trojans @ USC-Aiken ClassicThe Lady Trojans of Virginia State University take two tough losses on the road at the University of South Carolina-Aiken Classic. Augusta State defeated VSU 77-60 in the first night and host USC-Aiken defeated VSU 78-55. With nearly a new team the Lady Trojans knew that they had a hard job ahead as they faced two teams with more experience and who have played few game this season already. Against Augusta State the Lady Trojans were out rebounded 51-31 which tells the story of who controlled the tempo of the game. Team leader, Erica Glasper played like a leader should, scoring 22 points, dishing out 2 assists and had 4 steals. Glasper will have to give VSU double figures in scoring until the Lady Trojans new players catch on to the system. Transfer, Tope' Ugunniyi contributed 15 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals in her first game in the orange & blue. Senior, Areyal Hall played solid for the Lady Trojans with 11 points and 10 rebounds for the game. Freshman, Ravin Yancey had 9 points, 7 rebounds and five steals for VSU. In game two, it Erica Glasper again carrying the torch for the Virginia State University Lady Trojans as she smoked in 17 points, 6 rebounds and a steal. Glasper has truly become on of the better guards in the CIAA. Glasper's leadership vocally and in her play has already set the tone for what we should see this season. Playing big in the painted area again was Areyal Hall, who scored 14 points, pulled down 8 rebounds and played 37 aggressive minutes with only 2 fouls. Jennifer Rhodan came off the bench for VSU to contribute 11 points and 3 rebounds in just 17 minutes of play. The Lady Trojans will have their chance to bounce back on November 30, 2004 in Daniel Gymnasium against the Lady Pioneers of Columbia Union.
