VSU vs. Livingstone College Gm#5

The Virginia State University Trojans defeated the Livingstone Blue Bears 19-13, in CIAA action at Rogers Stadium.

The Trojans jumped on top of the Blue Bears in the first quarter after the defense forced a fumble on the first play of the game. It didn't take long for the Trojans to get freshman work-horse Nick Fleming involved in the offense. Fleming scampered for a 3-yd TD run on the Trojans' second play from scrimmage giving the Trojans a 7-0 lead. The Trojans added more points to their lead when kicker, Musa Conteh converted on a 27-yd field goal attempt making the score 10-0. The Trojans' defense was very eager to shut the Blue Bears out early, to keep them from making a comeback. WR, P.J. Berry torched the Blue Bear defense for a 39-yd TD pass from QB, Michael Terry to increase the lead 17-0. The Blue Bears managed to reach the endzone before the half on a 36-yd TD pass to WR, Chris Jeter to cut the lead 17-7.

In the second half the Blue Bears controlled the game clock driving the ball the length of the field and eventually QB,David Melton found Chris Jeter for a 25-yd TD pass. However, on the Blue Bear conversion attempt the Trojans' special teams unit forced an interception by safety, Keith Johnson. Johnson returned the interception 96-yds to give the Trojans 2 points making the score 19-13. Johnson has now intercepted a pass in four consecutive games.The remainder of the game the Trojans' defense held off the Blue Bears to secure the win giving VSU a 4-1 record. RB, Nick Fleming finished the day with 30 carries for 134 yds and a TD, giving him two consecutive 100-yd rushing games.
