About the Academy

Description: The Academy for Faculty Development is designed to be that special place for faculty to interact with colleagues as we enjoy continuous professional growth. The Academy will provide a university-level base for a wide range of faculty development programs, activities and research projects. This initiative is directly related to improving the quality of instruction at Virginia State University.

The Academy will utilize the expertise and leadership of Virginia State's finest teachers/scholars. Particular areas of emphasis will include:

    • The development of the curriculum in areas which are identified in the Academic Master Plan

    • The enhancement of in-class and out-of-class teaching strategies

    • The development and incorporation of new instructional technologies

    • The assessment of student performance and the on-going evaluation of instruction.

The Academy will provide a direct means of integrating feedback gained through assessment into faculty development projects.

This multi-purpose center is designed to accommodate approximately fifty participants.
