ESSAY
1. Discuss how statues are used in the Congo region to make spiritual forces manifest. Explain the use and symbolism involved with the various elements used.
2. Select two cultures from Central, East, and/or South Africa and discuss how they utilize the body as sculpture to show cultural identity, status, and social roles.
3. Explain how symbolic references in art help to affirm and promote the power of leaders in the Kongo, Kuba, and Luba empires.
