Eligibility for SSS Program Services

To receive program services, students must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment at Virginia State University.  Program participants will be undergraduate students who have the need for academic support and meet one of the following requirements as established by the U.S. Department of Education as published in the Federal Register:

  • First generation with demonstrated financial need
  • Demonstrated financial need only
  • Disabled
  • First generation only

Undergraduate students with disabilities may receive any of the services listed herein.  Registration with the University-sponsored Students With Disabilities Program [(804) 524-5061] is necesssary to receive the maximum level of customer services relative to reasonable accommodations.

Participant Eligibility for Grant Aid - To receive SSS program grant aid, students must be current participants in SSS who are in their first two years of postsecondary education and receiving Federal Pell Grants.

Interested students must complete the SSS Application for Program Participation and submit a signed copy of the federal income tax return (IRS 1040, 1040A etc.) for both parents. If parents were not required to file an IRS tax form, submit a notarized statement of the amount and source of family income and the number of dependents supported by the income.
