VSU Statement on Rumors

Published date: April 24, 2013

The events of the past days have been very emotional for all of us at VSU. We ask our community: students, faculty, staff and administration to hold the grieving families in their thoughts and prayers.

Now is the time for our campus to unite in love and support.  As the circumstances of this tragic event unfold, it is important to allow our justice system to proceed without interference. We encourage our students to take advantage of the support systems we’ve put in place, including counseling.

We are aware of rumors being communicated through various social media networks. We are diligently working to dispel false rumors and inaccurate posts. If anyone becomes aware of a suspicious situation, even through rumor, it is critical that, instead of posting or perpetuating a rumor online, they report what they hear or observe to the VSU Police at (804) 524-5411. If you see or hear something, please say something!

We are taking every possible step to ensure the safety of our campus. The safety of every student in our care is the top priority in every decision we make. When necessary, we are coordinating efforts with other local and state authorities.

Be confident that you can trust information that comes from VSU’s official website, e-mail and Facebook and Twitter accounts. Our sites will be immediately updated with accurate information as news and information becomes available.

If you have questions, do not hesitate to call the University Relations Office at (804) 524-5045.

Please keep yourself, your neighbors and your fellow Trojans safe and in your prayers.
