Serials/ Electronic Resources Librarian
Virginia State University is seeking a professional to provide management and coordination of the serials department in the University Libraries.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position reports to the Associate Librarian for Technical Services in the University Libraries and manages the day-to-day operations and workflow supporting the selection, purchasing, licensing, access and maintenance of electronic resources and serials in all formats. The position also serves as liaison providing collection development support and information literacy instruction to assigned academic departments; manages the scheduling and reference services for the serials information desk to include working an evening and rotating weekend assignment; and oversees the supervision and training of student assistants.
A Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from an ALA-accredited program and considerable experience in all aspects of serials control and management is required. Evidence of experience working with integrated library systems, electronic resource management and link revolver software; demonstrated experience working with e-resources vendors and negotiating and monitoring license agreements; expert cataloging experience and familiarity with current and emerging standards in library metadata, including MARC21, FRBR, and RDA; excellent communication and analytical skills; supervisory experience; commitment to service; and the ability to work cooperatively and quickly learn and adapt to new technology.
