EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ENROLLMENT SERVICES

Virginia State University (VSU) seeks an innovative, collaborative, energetic and experienced professional to serve as the Executive Director for Enrollment Services (EDES). The EDES, under the supervision of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, must possess superior communication skills; a proven commitment to student success and to excellence in customer service, along with strong organizational, financial and analytical skills; and the ability to establish strategies and set priorities to meet targeted goals. The successful candidate should have a commitment to diversity, including familiarity with international student populations. The EDES is responsible for the successful operation and continuous improvement in enrollment services, and provides comprehensive leadership, vision, effective planning, program development, budget oversight, and data analysis. The EDES assists the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs with other enrollment-related projects, while serving as a liaison between academic units and enrollment services. The successful candidate must be able to articulate and demonstrate an understanding of the VSU’s mission, and be committed to advancing the mission with all stakeholders. Further, the EDES collaborates throughout the university – with academic affairs units, deans and faculty in developing and implementing innovative and effective strategies for student recruitment and retention. The successful candidate serves as a member the Provost’s Executive Teams.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will develop, implement, assess, and oversee a comprehensive strategic enrollment plan, (to include established enrollment goals based on strategic analysis of student success, program specific and institutional capacity, market research and geo-demographic data, and best practices in enrollment concepts and strategies designed to recruit and retain a culturally-diverse student population); develop, implement and execute a comprehensive communication and outreach strategy to prospective students, parents/families, high school counselors, alumni and other stakeholders; establish systems to aid in enrollment planning and decision-making at all levels; able to make data-driven, fact-based decisions objectively, and implement changes as necessary for the short and long term success of the University; forecast accurately, projected new students on a periodic basis; develop and oversee the communication plan for undergraduate, graduate and transfer students in collaboration with the Office of Marketing and Public Relations; collaborate regularly, with the University’s marketing team to develop effective marketing strategies, along with the creation of appropriate recruitment and enrollment activities including, such as open houses, campus onsite admission programs, regional presentations, training sessions, orientation, and other related activities; remain current in understanding the use of new technology and approaches used in college/university admissions; provide exemplary leadership to admissions and recruitment staff, including hiring, training, supervision and evaluation; perform ongoing staff evaluation to encourage professional growth, and formally appraise staff annually; ensure that goals and objectives of the admission office produce desired results; and demonstrated work ethic and attention to detail is essential.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

An earned master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required. The successful candidate must have at least 5-7 years of progressive leadership in admissions, with a knowledge of current market trends, as well as the needs and interests of prospective students; a proven record of success in developing enrollment models and growing an applicant pool; evidence of advanced leadership skills, with the ability to develop, motivate, supervise, and evaluate staff; exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, interacting with a wide variety of constituents; ability to analyze data to assess admissions trends, and high level of computer literacy is required; demonstrated planning and exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills are a must; excellent supervisory and team building skills required; ability to think strategically; demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, projects and other activities simultaneously; and must have a valid driver’s license.
